OSI Food Solutions, an American food company, operates on a global level and has been expanding its offerings and capabilities for many years. In total, the facility can now process over 45,000 tons of pork, beef, and chicken products and will also be adding 20 new employees. This will bring the total amount of employees at the plant from 140 to 160.
The new OSI Food Solutions expansion added 22,600 square-feet the plant and included a new product development kitchen, storage for supplies, a production hall, and much more. David McDonald, OSI Food Solutions President, was interviewed and remarked that the company is exited about the new addition and that it will allow it to increase its product offerings and support the success of the company’s customers. Upgrades to the plant’s food defense system were added, too, and some of these included a modern firefighting system, indoor cameras, and a surveillance system. Sustainability was a key focus of some of the upgrades that have cut down on the consumption of electricity by close to 20%.
OSI Food Solutions has also expanded its operations in Chicago, Illinois. There, the company recently purchased an abandoned Tyson Foods Plant for $7.4 million. Tyson Foods admitted that 480 of their employees were about to be without jobs as the plant was scheduled to shut down, but OSI came in and offered many of them new jobs with their company. The facility in the south-side of Chicago measures out at 200,000 square-feet and will compliment a nearby facility by providing infrastructure. Kevin Scott, the senior executive vice president for OSI, commented on the purchase by saying that the new plant would allow the company to better serve the needs of its customer base.
